Fertility & IVF

Whether you are working with a fertility clinic, or planning to take a more natural approach, incorporating acupuncture into your plan will help you get pregnant and start your family.

Acupuncture can assist and improve the chances of conception by preparing the body for the journey ahead. It is important that both partners are in good health at the time of conception to give the best possible start to the new life. Many partners will receive Acupuncture to improve their health and general Qi (energy) and blood circulation before conceiving naturally and by assisted methods – IUI, IVF etc…

There is overwhelming evidence that Traditional Chinese Medicine can play a significant role in treating infertility, gynaecological problems and balancing hormones. In clinical studies acupuncture has been shown to increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, regulate ovulation, improve sperm quality and motility as well as increase IVF success rates.

Fertility Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin, sterile, single use, disposable needles into specific points on the body to address factors contributing to infertility.  The effectiveness of acupuncture is evidenced by its continued use for centuries and more recently by modern clinical trials showing successful results.

The methodology of the treatment techniques focuses on the natural menstrual cycle, specifically the follicular and luteal phases of the cycle. Acupuncture for fertility is now recognised as the leading treatment for fertility enhancement and has shown success in the following areas:

What to expect?

At your initial consultation we will take the opportunity to establish your individual needs and requirements and to design a programme to assist your chances of a successful pregnancy.

You will be asked to complete a pre-conception health questionnaire before your appointment to detail any earlier tests or treatments you may have undertake. The questionnaire also provides you with an opportunity to reflect on your current position regarding planning pregnancy.

Following the completion of this questionnaire and your initial consultant, you will have a treatment in Acupuncture. Also advice consisting of nutritional and lifestyle recommendations (such as diet, vitamin and herbal supplements, exercise, sleep and easy to implement methods of handling stress). I will explain how this can help your fertility and how many sessions you may need depending on the stage of your current position.
